The best earrings for your face shape

Face shape

In a world that often emphasizes trends and fashion rules, it's easy to overlook the one accessory that truly complements your unique features: earrings. At Christine Ryan Designs, we believe that your jewelry should not only adorn you but also enhance your natural radiance. Just like our cherished opals, we encourage you to wear a glow that emanates from within.

Tips to find the shape of your face:

Discovering the perfect earrings starts with understanding your face shape. Follow these steps to unveil the contours that define your unique beauty:

  1. Take a selfie with your hair pulled back. Use the “mark-up” tool to draw an outline of your face. The shape of that outline is your geometric face shape.

  2. Using a selfie, mark dots at the outer edges or your forehead along your hairline, at your cheekbones and the bottom of your jaw. Connect the dots to get an outline.

  3. You can draw horizontal lines across your face to determine which lines are the longest and that will guide you to your face shape.

  4. With your mirror and a DRY ERASE MARKER, trace the outline of your face.

Oval

Your face is longer than it is wide. You have a curved jawline slightly narrower than your forehead. Your forehead is probably the widest part of your face.

Celebrities with oval face: Kate Middleton, Tina Fey, Julianne Moore

Earrings: You can wear almost any shape, but earrings that hit at your cheekbones like studs will show off your cheekbones. Another option is a round earring that will make your face look fuller. Shop your best earrings here

Inverted triangle and heart

If your forehead is the widest part of your face and tapers down to a narrower chin with a straight hairline across your forehead then you have an inverted triangle face. Heart shaped faces have a dip in the hairline.

Celebrities with inverted triangle face: Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Love Hewitt

Celebrities with heart face: Blake Lively, Kourtney Kardashian, Kerry Washington

Earrings: Balance this face shape with width at the jawline. Earrings that are wider at the bottom than the top help fill in the lower portion of your face, so your face is more balanced. Add soft curves like a tear drop shape. Shop your style here

Round

Your face length and width are about equal. Your jaw is also rounded. Your cheekbones are the widest part of your face.

Celebrities with round face: Charlize Theron, Emma Stone, Kate Upton, Renee Zellweger

Earrings: Long dangle earrings will lengthen your face and make it look slimmer. Avoid circular, hoops or button studs which emphasize the roundness. Your best earrings are here.

Square

You have a squared jaw and minimal curves to your face. Your forehead, cheekbones and jaw are about equal in width.

Celebrities: Keira Knightley, Angelina Jolie, Olivia Wilde

Earrings: Balance your square jaw with soft rounded earrings. Anything with ovals, circles, hoops work well that are medium to long length. These are perfect for you.

Diamond

Your forehead and chin are narrower than your cheekbones.

Celebrities with a diamond face shape: Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Katherine Hepburn

Earrings: To balance your natural beauty choose earrings that are longer to emphasize the length in your face. But stay narrow since your cheekbones are wider, have slim earrings close to your face. You can also select earrings with weight at the bottom, like teardrops, to balance your cheekbones. Check out these styles here.

Rectangle and oblong

If your forehead, cheeks and jawline are nearly the same width you have a rectangular face shape. Your proportions are even, but your face is longer than a square shaped face. The difference between a rectangular and oolong face is how angular it is.

Celebrities: Courtney Cox, Meryl Steep, Kim Kardashian

Earrings: Play up your cheekbones with studs. Other choices are hoops and ovals. You’ll want to wear earrings with rounded edges rather than sharp angles. I would recommend these here.
