Opal FAQ
Are opals bad luck?
DeBeers had a strong marketing campaign to sell opals as unlucky so more people would buy diamonds. However, Queen Victoria loved opals and wore them often. Opals are connected to many ancient cultures and considered to be magical stones. The Romans believed opal to be a symbol of hope, like the rainbow.
I’ve heard opals are very fragile.
Opals are a more fragile stone in comparison to others. They are similar to glass so they are tougher than you think. We add an extra layer of protection in our opal triplets. These stones are three layers which contain a protective cap over the opal. For people that are very active we recommend you shop the opal triplets. Click here to see that collection.
Why do you only work in opals?
We found opals to be the most beautiful stone containing all the colors in one setting. Chrissy liked that no one else was working in opals and Ryan liked the challenge of working with a delicate stone.
